Baidu Files for IPO

The Motley Fool: Is “Baidu” Chinese for “Google”?. According to Baidu’s prospectus, it is “the leading Chinese-language Internet search provider.” In Web traffic, it ranks No. 2 in China and No. 6 in the world. Much like Google, Baidu has built its traffic mostly through word-of-mouth and the so-called Baidu Union. Over 76,000 third-party websites have posted Baidu’s search box on their pages; if their users search Baidu via that box, and click on ads in the process, Baidu Union members get a piece of the resulting profits.

I’ve posted Baidu contracts to the web site.

Poor Market Conditions Blamed Again

Boston Business Journal: Egenera Cancels IPO, Blames Poor Market Conditions. Egenera Inc. has withdrawn plans for an initial public offering of stock, reportedly to have been valued as much as $125 million. The company indicated market conditions are not optimal.

If I were the market, I might be developing some type of complex by now. Every time an IPO gets canceled, who gets blamed? Sure, the IPO was canceled, but not before Egenera contracts were disclosed.

Other new additions to the site include May Your Move contracts, Adatom contracts, YoCream contracts, Memec contracts, Cedric Kushner Promotions contracts, and PayPal contracts.

The Bloomberg article mentions China Techfaith Wireless Communication Technology Ltd., which recently raised $142 million in an intial public offering. I’ve posted China Techfaith contracts to the web site.

Other recent additions include Fusion Telecommunications contracts, iPayment contracts, InterVideo contracts and NetScout contracts.

Linkin Seeks Emancipation

New York Times: Linkin Park Wants Out of Warner, Citing Lack of Confidence. Days before an expected public stock offering from the Warner Music Group, the rap-rock band Linkin Park demanded yesterday to be released from its recording contract with the company, saying internal cost cuts may have left the music giant “unable to compete in today’s global music marketplace.”

I’ve added Warner Music Group contracts to the web site. Other recent additions include Hansen Natural contracts, Macromedia contracts and Webb Interactive Services contracts.

Build-A-Bear Stuffs Coffers with IPO Gains

The Enquirer: Walnut Group Scores Big for Backing Build-A-Bear. An initial public offering has turned the small bears at Build-A-Bear Workshop into big business for the retailer’s long-time backer, Cincinnati-based Walnut Group. While the Thursday IPO on the New York Stock Exchange reduced the equity group’s position from 18 percent of outstanding shares to 8.8 percent of the St. Louis-based retailer, nobody at Walnut Group was complaining very much.

Build-A-Bear Workshop contracts are now online. Includes many employment agreements, leases, and services agreements. Recently, Shopping.com also had a successful IPO. I’ve also posted Shopping.com contracts online as well.

Finding Oscar

Reuters: DreamWorks Animation Set for IPO. DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. will find out this week if box office success can be turned into Wall Street cash in a widely anticipated initial public offering that could raise up to $725 million. The sale would separate the animation group that has made films like “Shark Tale” and “Shrek 2” from the live-action unit of DreamWorks, formed by moguls Steven Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg and home to movies like “The Terminal.”

Bug’s Life. Antz. Finding Nemo. Shark Tale. The Incredibles. Will DreamWorks follow with a superhero movie too? DreamWorks Animation contracts have finally be released, including Jeffrey Katzenberg’s employment agreement, Steven Spielberg’s consulting agreement and David Geffen’s consulting agreement.

If We Stopped Exporting Cars…

Time: China’s Quest for Oil. Motorists bemoaning high prices at the pumps—oil rose to a record $55 a barrel on Oct. 15, up 65% this year—can with some justification point an accusatory finger toward the mainland. Its booming economy and burgeoning appetite for cars and other modern conveniences have caused energy demand to soar.

You think gas prices are high right now? Here’s the sobering message from the article above: “The number of cars on mainland roads – about 20 million – is expected to increase by 2.5 million this year alone.” For a country with a population of 1.3 billion people, China only has 20 million cars on the road. California, alone, has almost 30 million vehicles. The numbers all point to higher and higher gas prices in the future.

I’ve added Brilliance China Automotive Holdings contracts and China Automotive Systems contracts to the web site. I’ve also added contracts from eLong, a Chinese online travel web site that recently filed for an IPO.

Meet Ms. Tamagotchi

CNN: Virtual Girlfriend Could End Dating Woes. She needs to be coddled with sweet talk and pampered with gifts, but you’ll never see her in the flesh, says a Hong Kong company that’s developing a “virtual girlfriend” for new cell phones with video capability.

For the next series of The Bachelor, the contestant will have to choose between Miss Nokia, Miss Samsung and Miss Nextel. And the winner is … petite with a mute button and a vibrate mode. Anyways, the “brains” behind this product is going public. I’ve added Artificial Life contracts to the web site.
